Meet our Students

These fantastic students are providing the workforce backbone of our project; they are building the house! We would like to thank every student for giving their time and effort to build a safer home for one of their neighbor families in Aurora. Check back often, as we highlight a new student who helped make this project possible.

 
This Weeks Featured Student - Jose Cruz

Jose Cruz

Jose is a native of Aurora and a senior at East Aurora High School. He thoroughly enjoys the building trades class at East Aurora High School and is excited to help build the Aurora Fortified Project house. Jose would like to make his interest and talent in construction into a full time career after graduating and appreciates the opportunity to learn valuable skills this class and project are providing him. He is an extremely hard worker, and in his free time you can find Jose playing basketball or soccer with friends. Jose is a bilingual speaker, reader and writer in both English and Spanish.

 
 

Luis Alaniz

Luis is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this spring. He thoroughly enjoys the building trades class taught by Mr. Davis. He recognizes that it is an excellent opportunity to learn, hands-on, just about every aspect of building a home and will graduate knowing that he learned something new just about every day while in the class. He has found that he is not only talented in construction, but he enjoys it immensely as well. Luis would like to attend college and eventually pursue a career in construction. Luis is a bilingual speaker, reader and writer in both English and Spanish.

 

Miguel Barajas

Miguel is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. He has taken the building trades class for the last two years, and it is easily his favorite class. Miguel is a hard worker and appreciates a good challenge and what skills he can take away from it. He has lived in Aurora for the last six years and is an avid soccer player. His goal is to further his education and go into business after graduation. Miguel is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Gelasio Campos

Gelasio is a junior at East Aurora High School and is thoroughly enjoying his first year of building trades, since he is certain that he wants to join the construction world, professionally, after graduation. He is a hard worker and is constantly trying to add to his skills. During the summer, Gelasio works for his father's exterior and interior painting company to gain more experience and he is also currently working part time after school at Target. He is a devoted baseball player during his free time and enjoys watching the White Sox and the Atlanta Braves. Gelasio is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Lorenzo Cavada

Lorenzo is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate in 2007. He enrolled in the building trades class to transition his interest in construction into a reality. Lorenzo has had the opportunity to try his hand at the many different construction skills the class has to offer and is excited about how much he is learning and that he will be able to apply to a career some day. After high school, he would like to build apartment buildings and be a successful landlord. Lorenzo is a bilingual speaker, reader and writer in both English and Spanish.

 

Ivan Guadalupe Cano

Ivan is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this spring. He would like to go into the construction field after graduation and is already honing his business skills through a part time job after school. He is excited to be working on the Aurora Fortified Project, as he has a soft side for charitable projects and organizations. Ivan's goal is to go to college and study business management, own his own business, and use that business to help the local underprivileged, ill and youth residents in his city. He enjoys playing soccer, pool, bowling and fixing cars in his free time. Ivan is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Jose Correa

Jose is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate in 2007. Building trades class is a great fit for him, since he not only is interested in construction but is noted to be an extremely hard worker, always performing tasks to the best of his ability. Jose is excited about the opportunity to work on the Aurora Fortified Project and hopes that it will be his best work yet. During his time off from school, Jose is an avid soccer player along with other sports. Jose is a bilingual speaker, reader and writer in both English and Spanish.

 

David Cucinetl

David is a senior at East Aurora High School and has been a resident of Aurora for 16 years. He enjoyed learning so many new skills that were taught during the building trades first semester, that he enrolled for a second semester to perfect them. David is an avid builder that enjoys a challenge and appreciates the opportunity to take on the necessary skills that he will use in a career after high school. During his free time, you will likely find David playing soccer. David is a bilingual speaker, reader and writer in both English and Spanish.

 

Edgar Delgado

Edgar is a senior at East Aurora High School, where building trades is his favorite class. He has enjoyed taking on the new challenges that the class has to offer him and he is appreciative of the advanced electrical training he has taken on. Edgar would like to continue his education and eventually earn a Masters Degree in Business Management with the future goal of owning his own business. Edgar is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Isaias Diaz

Isaias is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this spring. He has been interested in construction since his freshman year of high school and has thoroughly enjoyed the building trades class. Isaias appreciates all of the new skills he has learned during the building trades class, including team work and the many different building techniques that can be used for a single project, making him more efficient. He enjoys construction so much that his summer job includes helping his uncle build and repair homes in the Aurora area. Isaias works hard while setting long term goals and looks forward to an exciting career in construction. Isaias is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Ezequiel Guluai

Ezequiel is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. He enjoys the building trades class; especially because of the fact that he can leave class knowing that he and his classmates are doing something substantial for the community by building homes for fellow Aurora residents. Ezequiel appreciates his teachers and all they have taught him. Ezequiel is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Martin Guzman

Martin is a senior at East Aurora High School and is looking forward to graduation this May. Construction is something that has always intrigued him, and makes building trades his favorite class. Martin has even transitioned his talents in the classroom to real world experience by working on drywall and taping on the weekends. He is the oldest of four children, the only boy, and he has taken on summer construction jobs to not only help his family but develop his skills for a career after graduation. Martin is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Juan Carlos Hernandez

Juan Carlos is a senior at East Aurora High School, where building trades is his favorite class. He appreciates the real life skills that the class offers and the opportunity to the students receive to prepare a career in the real world. Juan Carlos is not sure which field he would like to pursue, but he is certain his future career will be in construction. Presently, he is focusing on possible schooling to become an electrician or an HVAC engineer at ETI. Juan Carlos is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Roman Corral Maldonado

Roman is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. He has been enrolled in building trades for the last two years. Roman is focused on helping people, making a difference in others' lives and working hard. His plans include enlisting with the Marine Corps after graduation to become a police officer. He has outstanding honor and commitment and is willing to go wherever the Marines send him, even if that means going to war. He enjoys running, playing football, weight lifting, boxing, and making the best of life. Roman is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Eduardo Marauillo

Eduardo is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this spring. This is his second semester in the building trades class; he has enjoyed both semesters immensely. He appreciates all of the opportunities to learn new skills the class has to offer him, all of which, he is certain, he will use in a future construction job. Eduardo would like to go to college and continue to learn about the construction business. Eduardo is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Alex Naxi

Alex is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. He believes the building trades class is an excellent opportunity for students to learn applicable skills for a future job in construction. He has used the skills, that he has learned in class, while on job sites and during his summer carpenter job. After working different jobs, Alex is certain that construction is the field in which he can see himself making a career. Alex is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Jonathan Ortega

Jonathan is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. He enjoys building trades class and has become especially proficient in drywall installation and painting. Jonathan's goals for the future include going to college for a degree in automotive repair or architectural design. As he pursues his education, however, he would like to continue his athletic talent in soccer. He currently plays for the Chicago Fire reserve team and would like to play professionally. Jonathan is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Carlos Padilla

Carlos is a senior at East Aurora High School and is looking forward to his graduation this May. Outside of school, Carlos works part-time as a customer service representative for a financial services firm. He enjoys spending time with his friends and family and spends a lot of his free time drawing, as art is his true passion. Carlos has excellent computer skills and would like to go to college for a bachelor's degree in business. Carlos is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Osvaldo "Ozzy" Padilla

Ozzy is a junior at East Aurora High School and is thoroughly enjoying his first year of building trades. Already he is enjoying the first hand experience of roofing, framing, plumbing, and installing drywall, but admits he is looking forward to strengthening his skills through class and job application. After graduation, Ozzy would like to cultivate a construction union and work in a tight-knit, talented group. Outside of school, Ozzy enjoys dancing and is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Simon Rojas

Simon is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this spring. He holds many talents, including auto mechanics and construction. He is happy with his decision to enroll in building trades since the class has given him the opportunity to test run a career in construction before his graduation. He has learned many new construction skills and looks forward to using them after school. Simon also holds down a part time job that he has maintained for over two years. He is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Thomas Sutcliff

Thomas is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. He has a well-defined future plan that includes attending Environmental Technical Institute for HVAC training; followed by courses at Universal Technical Institute for auto mechanic training; followed by an electrician's degree from Northern Illinois University. Thomas is planning all of this to help him achieve his goal of owning his own full-service real estate business. Beyond his talent in construction and automotive repair, Thomas enjoys basketball, swimming, lacrosse, track, cross country and spending quality time with family and friends. He has thoroughly enjoyed his high school career and is very proud of the hard working student he has become. He would highly recommend the building trades class to any fellow student and advocates that doing well in school really does make a difference in the future.

 

Ricardo "Ricky" Trenado

Ricky is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. His favorite classes are building trades, art and any science class. Ricky's future plans after graduation include going to college for a degree in graphic design, so that he can eventually start his own business. During his free time, Ricky enjoys drawing, soccer and video games. Ricky is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Gerry Valencia

Gerry is a senior at East Aurora High School and will graduate this May. He is a talented, avid baseball player; he is a starter for the school's varsity baseball team. Gerry was offered the opportunity to graduate in December, but he insisted on playing one more season for East Aurora. Gerry's future goals include going to college, play baseball and help support his close family. Gerry is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.

 

Josue Valenzuela

Josue is a junior at East Aurora High School; this is his first year with the building trades program. He is enjoying the class the all of the skills he is acquiring with the hands on training provided. After graduation, Josue would like to go to college and study to be a home inspector. In his free time outside of school and his part time job, he enjoys playing baseball, basketball, soccer and working on muscle cars. Josue is a bilingual speaker, writer and reader in both English and Spanish.
